Question
I'm 18 and i live in Oklahoma. Is it legal for me to carry my 9mm pistol in my vehicle? If so where should i keep it in my car? If not, why not? And if i can what conditions must be met for me to legally carry it in my car. Oh, and it won't leave my car for the duration of my trips excluding use or storage.
Answer
Austin,
Unless you are a concealed carry permit holder in Oklahoma, you may not carry a concealed firearm in a vehicle. You must be 21 years old to get a permit. If you wish to transport your firearm in your vehicle, it must be unloaded and in plain view or secured in a commercial gun case that is either wholly or partially visible from outside the vehicle. You can also transport it in your trunk.
If you place the gun in either the glove compartment or console, the gun is considered to be 'concealed' and you must have a permit to do that. It doesn't matter if it leaves the car or not as long as it meets the above requirement.
Personally, I don't like leaving guns in cars as cars are frequently broken into, particularly if the gun case is in plain sight as Oklahoma law requires...

Doug
