Question
Hi Doug I just found this site and find it very informative. My question is about the interchange on 1911 parts. For instance if I had a Kimber can I use parts from RIA or S%26W or vise-versa. And is there a website or any resources to help in cross-references. Thank you Will
Oh and thanks on the info about jimenez I almost traded my Taurus for one what a mistake that would've been
Answer
Will,
One of the benefits of the 1911 design is the high level of customization that can be achieved. Parts for 1911 pistols should all be 'interchangeable' is the manufacturing is true to the design. In reality, many companies will make minor tweaks and customization that can result in incompatibility. If you go to some of the better parts and accessories supplier like Brownell's you will find that there is a lot of interchange possible on things like barrels, recoil springs, grips, safeties and many internal parts. Just be aware that there is no guarantee of interchange and you may find some things that have to be 'fitted' from time to time.
Check the Brownell's website for more information at: http://www.brownells.com
Glad you found the site informative and VERY glad you didn't buy the Jimenez...
