Colt 45 Gold Cup

Question
Hi, I recently came across a colt 45 gold cup MK IV series 70.  I have never shot the gun, however it is loaded and I am unable to eject the chambered shell.  My question, is how do I properly unload it, without shooting the gun?  Many thanks.

Answer
Nice gun, You can unload it and it will not fire unless you pull the trigger and depress the grip safety.  So don't do that and it will not fire.

Remove the Magazine.

Point the gun in a safe direction, into soft ground, not concrete, not the floor, not the roof, after you are sure it is pointed in a safe area so that even if the gun does shoot, the bullet will go into the ground and will not hurt anything.  So while unloading remember where the barrel points at all times.

Then hold the gun like you are going to shoot it with one hand NOT PUTTING YOUR FINGER IN THE TRIGGER, hold the gun steady.  Then with your other hand point your thumb toward you, palm down, then grab the top of the slide and move it back towards you several times, this should remove any bullet in the chamber.  If you leave the magizine in, this will also load another round into the chamber, so make sure the mag is removed first.

After you do this, pull the slide back and hold it and visually inspect and see that no round is in the chamber.  If you know how to lock the slide back, you can lock it back and once  you see no bullet in the chamber and no magazine in the gun, then it is unloaded.
