Question
I have a 1895 Chilean Mauser in excellent condition and would like to know if you could tell me about the history of the gun. The serial number is H4051 and is consistant throughout the gun. It also has the star of David stamped on the left side of the stock below the serial number(below the receiver). Other markings are Mauser Chileno Modelo 1895 Manufactura Loewe Berlin. There are also other symbols and markings on the gun that I would like to know the meaning of.
Thank you,
Ron
Answer
Hi,
Mausers in all thier variations is not something I spent a lot of time with.
The 1895 Chilean Mauser is considered one best quality Mausers ever made.
Ludwig Lowe & Company of Berlin bought Mauser 1887.
These were made by the actual Mauser company, not a contractor.
The Star of David was a proof mark of
Ludwig Lowe & Company.
This article a good overview.

This is the reference book you would need for marking.
