Question
I wrote this before but the 'subject' line magically disappeared, rendering the whole question useless, so no subject now.
I own an 'AMT CAL. 380 9mm KURZ BACK UP' made in EL Monte, CA.
I want to find a gunsmith near [SFO] San Francisco Aeroport familiar with this particular pistol.
It needs atrigger and new handgrips
A manual/ handbook/ history would be nice but unnecessary.
Can anybody confirm whether or not either 'AMT' or 'Kurz' still make firearms.
Maybe 'GCH' can now respond more positively to these questions.
Answer
I didn't respond negatively before. There was just no question there, and I checked AllExperts standard response box to that. I don't know what the service sends out as a result of that, but I apologize if it seemed negative to you.
Arcadia Machine and Tool (Irwindale, CA)produced several firearms through the 1970's into the 1980's. Plagued by quality control and reliability problems, the company went bankrupt. Some of the company's assets were purchased by the High Standard Mfg Company (Houston, TX).
Kurz is German for "short" and tells the cartridge designation. What is commonly called the .380 ACP in this country is referred as the 9mm Kurz (9x17) in most of Europe. It is not the manufacturer.
Because the guns produced by AMT had design flaws and quality control issues, I do not know of any gunsmiths who will work on them (and know several who absolutely will not because they then "own" the problem of a firearm with inherent design and manufacture problems).
Your best bet of finding parts will be from www.e-gunparts.com. If they do not have the parts, I don't know who else would.
Good luck to you with your project.
