The value of my Colt 45

Question
Hello Mr Emory and Thank You in advance for taking the time to help me. In June of 1991 I purchased brand new a Colt .45 Single Action Army Revolver Model #P1841P (the second P in the model number is hand written on the box flap and not printed from the factory) for $1595.00. Much to the horror of the gun shop/range owner, I proceeded to cut the nylon tie, purchase some cartridges and fire my new Colt using about 50 total rounds. I remember him saying I would never recoup the valve from firing the weapon. After that day the gun was cleaned and has never been fired again. Well, that was nearly 20 years ago and the weapon looks like the day it was purchased. Can you give me an idea of what it might be worth. If it helps, the finish is nickel, the barrel length is 4 3/4" and it carries pearl handle grips. Thanks again for your time. Sincerely, Michael C.
Answer
Hi Michael,
You can expect to get roughly the same thing you paid for the gun if it has been cared for. Guns do not lose value like automobile's unless the gun has not been cared for. Gun collectors that buy guns and never fire them are like people that buy new cars and never drive them, makes no sense to me.
Take care
