Question
HI; I am considering buying a handgun for personal protection. I am looking for something that would be safe, effective, and as inexpensive as possible. What would you recommend? I am in Oregon, and I am not too familiar with either the purchase or concealed carry requirements, so if you have any knowledge in these areas that would also help. Thanks.
Answer
Anyone can own a gun and keep it in their house, providing they are not a convicted felon.
Revolvers tend to be cheaper or easier to use and maintain. A good .357 mag would do well. As far as carry and concealment requirements you would have to check with your local law enforcement.
I would suggest you find a local gun shop, or several and just visit them, talk to the people there, most gun guys will help show and explain pros and cons, you can might find some used guns cheap on a bulletin board or on consignment. Some gun stores let you test out guns and shoot them for a small fee. They will also have info on local gun safety courses so you improve your knowledge and handling experience.
