GOLDEN EAGLE RIFLE

Question
I have a 7000 Golden Eagle 30-06 rifle. It is approximately 10 years old and had never been fired. I took it to the rifle range today (11/01/10) and when u loaded a round into the chamber the bolt would not close. The rangemaster there said it appeared the chamber was not fully drilled out but he wasnt sure and said the gunsmith would have to check it out. He did say that these Golden Eagle rifles did have problems with them. Do you know of any such problems with these guns? Thanks for your time.
Answer
Hello Gary,
I have not head anything about this particular rifle having problems. It is not uncommon for there to be headspacing issues with rifle that have recoil of a 30.06 or higher caliber. It could be a fairly simple problem such as the barrell needing re-beaded. A qualified gunsmith should be able to check your gun out and tell what caused the issue. Best of luck!
