newer ammo in an older pistol

Question
Hi, I own an amt 380backup single action and recently bought
some Glaser Pow'R Ball hollow points. These have a polymer ball at the tip of the head which gives it a similar shape of
ball ammo which is recommended for my gun. What I'm curious
about is this ammunition OK to shoot in my gun. It dosen't say
its +p but does have a higher velocity than your normal 380
ammunition. I don't want to use it if it would damage the
gun. The pistol is semi auto and seems to be built pretty
solid of stainless steel. Thanks! Gary
Answer
Check your owners manual and see if the AMT is +P rated. Even if it is not, conventional wisdom is that a magazine full through the gun will not destroy it, and so even if not +P rated you can usually carry for self-defense, but you are wise to want to ensure function before trusting your life to it.
That's only a 70 gr projectile, and so that accounts for some of the velocity, but not all of it - that is a hot round. You are probably OK test firing and carrying the Corbon in the gun, but I would feed it a steady diet of the stuff.
