serial # registeration

when i bought my 12 gauge from wal-mart back in 1992 or 1993, do they keep my serial number on file or does it go into a data base file somewhere.  friend pawned my gun, without my knowledge and i dont have the serial number anymore (unable to find it)  wondering how can i get this number again.  thanks for the help,  mary lou wilson

long guns are not kept as long as handguns.  Depending on the State you are in they may have records of it, but if the gun was pawned, the pawn shop is required to keep records.

So if "your friend" took it without permission then that is theft of a firearm and that is a felony in most states.

I would tell your friend to give you the receipt and the place he pawned or you are going to police and make a stolen gun report.

If you can't find or get your gun, you need  to file a report so when the gun is used in a crime or to kill someone, the police will not be kicking down your door.
