Answer
Archie,
Riverside was a brand name used by the J. Stevens division of Savage Arms between approximately 1940 and 1960.
Riverside Arms Co was in business in the late 19th and early 20th century. This company was aquired by the Stevens division of Savage Arms sometime prior to WW2.
Depending on the condition, your gun may still be shootable. You should have a competent gunsmith examine it to determine if it is still in functional condition. These were moderately priced, utilitarian shotguns at the time they were sold and currently do not have any collectable value. Most have a sentimental value as something owned by a relative, as yours would likely be.
Not much more to tell...
Best,
Doug
