Question
I have a stevens model 15-A with out a serial number. However there are patent numbers on it. " 2094577 patents 2224758 2223093 RE22585 2271576" I got this rifle after my grandfather passed away and have shot it several times all seems to be in working order. Any information on this would be helpfull.
Thanks
Answer
Hello Zach. Your Stevens 15-A was manufactured before the 'Gun Control Act of 1968'. Firearms made before 1968 were not required to have serial numbers. Most likely, yours was made between 1960-68. It is a fine little gun for small game or plinking. I recommend not using any of the hyper-velocity ammunition, such as CCI STINGERS,REMINGTON VIPERS or YELLOW JACKETS, etc. in it. I prefer using only lower velocity round-nose lead ammunition in my older model .22 caliber rifles. If you shoot it much, you may start to get misfires or it may even stop firing at all. Most likely the firing pin has broken. It is a very simple fix. You can still find parts for it and do the repairs yourself. Numrich Gun Parts has an inventory of parts for it.
I hope this gives you some helpful information and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
