Question
Handed down to me, My Great Grandfather's 12g single shot Great American Nitro. The serial# is 12141. The barrel is stamped reinforced on top near the breach. I can make out the Pat# as Dec 12,00 & Aug 96 & May 14, 02
My question is, who made the gun and what year.
Thank you
James
Answer
Hello James,
The Great American Nitro was made by Crescent Firearms Co. and HD Folsom firearms, all the same. These guns have little to no collectors value because so many were made as department store guns, just changing the name of the gun to suite each department stores needs. I have never seen any of these guns dated beyond a 20-50 year time frame. I can say your gun was made in the early 1900's, sometime before the 1920's and if the gun is in great condition, you could expect to get 200 dollars for it and less if the gun has scratches, rust, etc.
Best of luck!
