Question
Marlin mod. 90 serial # F1544
I've just purchased this and have been told it may be a good collector for a starter. It has a small white dot with a smaller black eye on the bottom of the stock. Looking on another site they say based on the serial number it was made before 1833 ??? Any info you may have regarding this firearm would be greatly appreciated I've been able to find bits and pieces but nothing complete. Thank you Darrel
Answer
Hello Darrel. The Marlin Model 90 Over/Under shotgun was manufactured from 1937 through 1958. Your serial number places yours at 1949. The over-all conscientious is that the Model 90 is a very dependable shotgun of high quality for use. It has been priced by some at over $700, but in all fairness, those selling recently were in the $400-$500 range. There were not many different models. They were made in .410(highly collectable), 20 gauge and 16 gauge(better than average), and 12 gauge. There were a few thousand rifle/shotgun combo's in lighter calibers that are sought by many major gun collectors. Don't stop your research! Make sure you can afford the next Model 90 you come across. Above all else, go by what they are actually selling for and not what some may be asking for them.
I hope I have helped answer your questions and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
