Question
The rifle is a Stevens Marksman made by J Stevens Arms Company Chicopee Falls, Mass. U.S.A. On the top of the barrel is written 22-long rifle. It has an I in a circle on the upper frame. It has an S on the frame near the trigger and a 2'' mark behind the S. Can you tell me what all of this means and how old the rifle is? It is in very good condition. Would you have any idea of its value? Anything you can tell me about the rifle would be appreciated.
Thank You for sharing your knowledge, James
Answer
Hello James Kingston. Your rifle was manufactured between 1911 and 1939. Since there are so few records left from the early history of J.Stevens and Savage manufactured firearms, this is the best I can do for you. There is a man who can help you more. His name and address is: John Callahan 53 Old Quarry Rd. Westfield, MA. 01085. His research fee is around $20. As far as the value, I will suggest you check these web sites for actual selling prices. www.gunsinternational.com ; www.gunsamerica.com ; and these auction sites, www.gunbroker.com or www.auctionarms.com.. You can also google for other firearm dealers. I hope this helps answer your questions and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
