Question
I have a browning 7mm belgian that I inherited from my grandfather.  He passed away in 1969 so it's at least that old.

serial number is 45935  and then it looks like l8

in pretty good shape with a leupold on it.

any ideas on its age?

thanks,

Answer
Rob,

Your rifle is a Browning Safari Grade made in 1968. The serial number probably reads 45935 L 8.  The L is the letter code for the Safari Grades prior to 1970 and the 8 after is for 1968. The value is dependent upon condition first, followed by whether it is a saltwood cured stock (hopefully it isn't). The only way to determine saltwood other than looking for rust on the sling stud screws and the underside of the action, is to do a Silver Nitrate test. If the rifle is a long extractor in 100% MINT condition, no salt, it is worth about $1300-$1400 currently. Hope this helps.
