Hello,
i have in herited an ives and johnson 5 barrel revolver it has a date of nov 18,08 on the handle. it is in good shape. i dont know guns but would like to learn to shoot it and put a dollar calue on it for insurance purposes. could you help me with thAT?

As my bio said, I don't do valuations of guns, but you can look at such guns on firearms auctions sites online.
The IJ revolvers are plentiful, and not very valuable. In near 100% you'll see them offered for $350, but I don't know anyone buying them for that. Typically such guns will go from anywhere from $50-$150 in working order.
That is an old gun, and not a particularly strong design. If you are going to shoot it at all, I would have it checked over by a competent gunsmith to verify that it is safe to fire. If you really want to learn to shoot, I'd strongly recommend you get a more modern revolver (Ruger would be my recommendation for a balance of quality and price).
