Answer
Hello Joe.
Can't say I remember stating that the G inside the diamond denotes the quality of the barrel. The quality of the barrel is generally stamped on top of the barrel. It may say 'Genuine Armory Steel', 'Drop Forged', 'Genuine Damascus Twist', etc. I don't know what the G stands for, but I question that it stands for 'Government Issue', as the firearm was not of the quality used by the U.S. Government. Crescent manufactured a great number of shotguns for different hardware and department stores around the U.S. The Victor was one of these. Crescent did nickle plate some of their shotguns, only to capture the interest of the buyer and make a few extra dollars. I have a collection of twelve of these Crescent shotguns. Only two have the nickle plated receiver. Yes, they may be a '50 dollar' gun, but I still shoot mine often. I have even won a few turkey shoots with a 'Crescent made' Mississippi Firearms Company 12 Gauge. I hope this answers your questions and thank you very much for asking for me. Charles Gage
