Question
I am going through my Dads estate and found a gun that I know he had since I can remember.Its a 20 gauge single shot shot-gun.
Its only marking that I see are;
J. Stevens Arms Company
Chicopee Falls Mass. USA Made in USA
on the other side it says;
Stevens
the fully guaranteed single gun
the barrel is 28" tip to tip and is stamped "20 gauge"
I am looking for any information on it, Thanks, ED
Answer
Hello Ed Silva.
The J. Stevens Arms Company Began business in 1886. In 1916, it became New England Westinghouse to produce Mosin Nagant rifles for the Russian government and their allies in the fight against Germany and it's allies. In 1920, the Savage Arms Company purchased all of J. Stevens properties and changed the name of these shotguns to simply 'Stevens'. Therefore, your shotgun was manufactured from 1900-1915, as the 'Fully Guaranteed Single Gun'. The exact date is very hard to pinpoint, since most of the records have been lost or destroyed. I owned one of the same and it was a very good 'rabbit and squirrel gun'. I recommend shooting only the low velocity shells in it.
I hope this has answered your questions. Thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
