C&R License

Question
Hello Michael Tak.
I am a fellow Expert in the Firearms field here. My question is about a C&R License. I accidently let my C&R expire in July, 2011. I sent a new application, along with a check for $30, on January 3rd,2012. They have cashed my check, but I haven't received the license yet. How long should it take to receive it?
Thank you in advance. Charles Gage
Answer
Hi Charles,
The Gun Control Act requires the BATFE to complete the FFL application process within 60 days. If your application was completed correctly, the day the BATFE deposits your check is when I start the clock. Since today is January 28th, it's not surprising you have not received your FFL yet. To make an amendment to your FFL such as an address change typically takes 30 days.
The actual length of time also various depending on where you live. Your particular field office may be a lot busier than others. I live in Atlanta and mine took 90 days before I received it. This was unusually long though. I know FFLs in New York who received theirs in a little over 30 days.
The actual license will be coming from Martinsburg, VA where the Federal Firearms Licensing Center is. If the process for a 03 FFL is the same as a 01 FFL, an IOI will contact you. At that time you can inquire how long it will take. Or you can try contacting the Federal Firearms Licensing Center:
