Question
I was given this gun many years ago by my father and wondered if you can tell me was it made by Mossberg? The only markings on the gun are: REVELATION Model 125A 22-SHV-L-LR WESTERN AUTO SUPPLY. Can you tell me how old it is, who manufactured it, and what the value might be now? Thanks, JEFF
Answer
Jeff,
Your gun is actually a Mossberg Model 250C. Many of the 'store brand' rifles were made by other companies and private labeled for places like Western Auto, Sears and J.C. Penney.
These guns were manufactured between 1958 and 1961. It would be impossible to date any closer than that since they did not have a serial number.
In terms of value, it is really impossible to say. These are not really considered to be collectable in any way. Some people are interested in them for sentimental value since they might have owned one as a kid and would like to have another one for a keepsake. I have seen values starting at around $50 and going up to around $100 for one in exceptional condition.
I would be very surprised to see anyone pay more than $100 for one of these.
Hope this helps you out...
