Question
QUESTION: Paul,
Recently I was handed down a Ivers-Johnson Hurcules 410. It has been in my family for a very lon time. I was my great grandfathers and when it was shipped to my FFL dealer, the dealer said he could not register it because it has no serial number. I now have three questions. One, what year do you think this was manufactured? Two it is a family heirloom and not to be sold or shot ever! but what do you think it is worth? Three, should I dare try to refurbish this single shot shotgun?
Would like to hear your thoughts,
thanks,
j.

QUESTION: It is a single barrel 410 gauge and it has hercules printed on the side.
Answer
Hi again,
What you have is Iver Johnson "Champion" that was sold by Montgomery Ward.

Hercules was Wards house brand used on guns from various makers. Gun is worth $25 and $250 depending on condition. There really no collectors interest in these so you can have refurbished without effecting its value. These single barrels were 1909 to 1956. No real way to date them. They are a well made utility grade shotgun. It should be safe to shoot standard velocity ammo as long there no broken on it. Get it fixed as needed if needed. Then take it out and have some fun on a gun clubs trap field.
No reason make it wall hanger. If you need parts try
