Question
Over the course of 50 years and having the weapon stored with a collector;close friend the bolt was missing,I was able to get A bolt with handle from Numrich;however the guts of the bolt are missing.Since I am not a gunsmith what parts do I need to order to make it operational,or would I be better off buying a gun at auction for parts?
Answer
Terry,
Sorry to hear you have lost the bolt. I still haven't quite figured out why some folks like to separate the gun and the bolt, but it seems to happen with some frequency and usually the same result...a lost bolt.
Trying to rebuild a bolt from parts is pretty near impossible for a gun of that age. You'd probably have better luck trying to find an old gun at auction. Unfortunately, there are some folks out there that know there are a lot of folks trying to restore their childhood guns. Right now there is a Model 67 complete bolt assembly on Gunbroker.com for $150. It is a 'buy it now' auction. The problem is that in 95% condition, a gun of this type is actually only worth about $200 complete.
If you aren't in a hurry, you might set up a saved search on Gunbroker, that way when one comes into the site, you will get notified. You might be able to pick up a complete one for not a lot of money.
There would be a lot of value in having a 'parts gun' too since you might find other things that need to be fixed...
Hope this helps you out...
