sore throat

Answer
Hello Joe:
First let me state that I am not a physician so don't substitute my comments for seeing your doctor about this issue. If he is not familiar with SCUBA diving medical conditions, ask him to refer you to one.
The compressed air you breath is extremely dry. The mucus lining in your throat may be getting dried out from breathing the air and thus the sore throat. There have also been cases where equipment that has been contaminated by bacteria also cause these symptoms.
Two suggestions: Be sure to hydrate yourself well before and after the dives. Avoid substances which dry you out (coffee, alcohol, etc). If your equipment has not been serviced within the last year, have your reg into the shop for maintenance.
Lastly, inquire to your doctor about this condition. You may also try Divers Alert Network (DAN).
