re drysuit tryout
Question
Hi Jess,
i forgot to mention that i amm not qualifyed diver but was wanting to know if i could have a trysive using a drysuit you replyed Yes, you could probably find a dive shop (possibly with access to a pool) that would let you try out a drysuit under instructor supervision. It is common practice to rent dry suits because not everyone can afford the purchase price.and you would strongly urge me to take the PADI or SSI Dry Suit specialty class (which would involve two dives) prior to attempting to use a dry suit is this still acheivable or not
Answer
OK, not being a qualified diver yet changes things some.
Both SSI and PADI would allow you to utilize a dry suit during your open water training dives as part of an Open Water diver certification program (you would be a certified diver when you finish). This would require a dry suit orientation in confined water (swimming pool) as part of the training. The dive shop would rent the dry suit to you (along with the other required equipment) if you need it. After certification, and if you would be frequently diving in drysuit conditions, I would take the Drysuit Specialty course.
I'm not sure if you plan to do this, but I would NOT recommend diving with your friend, especially in a dry suit, without having a scuba diving certification. Attempting this without the proper training and experience could put you and your friend at great risk.
Programs such as TrySuit would not give the the experienced required to do independent Open Water diving in a dry suit.
I hope this helps clarify things. Jesse
