Career Diving Training
Question
I am currently looking to advance in the diving industry and was looking for some advice on diving training schools. I was looking at Bob Brayman's International Diving Career Institute at Hall's and the Commercial Diving Academy. Would you recommend either of these or do you know of any other full service career dive training schools? Thanks
Answer
Hey Jeffrey,
Could you give me a more specific description of what type of training you are looking for?
There are many types of professional (career) diving operations:
Industrial diving / commercial diving - is underwater construction and demolition tasks performed underwater.
Instruction - working as a dive instructor for a recreational diving agency
Dive mastering - running tours or taking clients out on specific diving sites
Scientific - performing diving operations in support of research activities.
Aquariums - most aquariums have divers on staff that perform maintenance operations, lead underwater tours, or perform interactive instructional performances with the public.
Maintenance - companies from the fountains at the Belagio in Las Vegas to Sea world utilize professional divers to perform maintenance operations.
Safety - NASA, Air Force, US Army use divers as safety observers for underwater training (dunk tanks, simulators) There is also a market within film and television production for safety dives.
Photo - photographers
All are professional divers working as career divers and most have different training backgrounds. Let me know what type of diving career interests you and I can provide more detailed information.
