Dive Equipment
Question
Mr. Babcock,
I am looking to learn more about the equipment related to scuba diving. I have always been interested in scuba but only recently got certified open water and have started piecing together a set of gear.
I have been wanting to learn more about the equipment. What resources can you direct me to, to learn more about its principles of use, functionality, and repair?

Answer
Andrew,
I apologize for being slow to respond.
There is just not a whole lot of info about SCUBA equipment function and repair available to the general public.
I am aware of one book that gives sufficient detail in the theory, function and repair of SCUBA regulators:

For the most part you are going to have to take specialized courses in equipment maintenance and repair. The manufacturers each have courses for working on their regulators, but those are only open to authorized retailers of their gear.
There are a few places where you could study general equipment repair and maintenance:
http://www.hallsdiving.com/career2/repair.htm
http://www.scubaengineer.com/trainingx.htm
http://www.scubatechnician.com/
http://www.divingtechnologies.com/
You would have to check with them on locations and cost for their courses.
Hope this helps,
Henry Babcock
