hello my coach want me to try out in juniors man id camp and idk if im good enough????
Question
I'm 6'2" maybe 6'2.5" i weight around 215 lbs. I'm 17 years old.
my last 2k which i pulled was 2 weeks ago and i pulled a 6:35.8 which is the best time ever rowed at my school but our rowing program started only 2 years before i went to highschool, by the end of this season im trying to get down to 6:20, 1:35 average
my coach really thinks i should go to the juniors man id camp but, I am really sacred about it and i dont think my 2k times is goood enough yet
Answer
Hi Maciek: I attached a link to the Junior Men's results for the CRASH-B Sprints, which is considered the premiere event for indoor rowing. As you can see, you are already in the top 25%. If you get your time down to your goal, you'll be in the top-10 and competitive for Junior camp.
If your coach is recommending you to go to the Junior Camp, you should go. He would not recommend you just to go there and fail. I don't know how good your crew is on the water; but if your boat is successful this spring, you should have no reason to be scared or intimidated by the competition. You are going to be one of the biggest guys out there.
The only thing I would suggest is to try to learn how to row in smaller boats like fours, pairs, and even single sculls. You want to ensure your rowing technique is as sharp as it can be.
Good Luck/AP
