Question
A friend and I are in high school, and we're attempting a 50k tomorrow. We're not trying to get a good time, we just want to finish. Do you have any advice?

Hi Lia: My question to you is: Why are you doing this? I can't imagine your coach is making you do this. You are rowing well over the distance of a marathon. You are looking at almost 4 hours of rowing. If you have not trained for at least steady state rowing at half this distance, you might have problems. I think even if you accomplish the piece, you are going to have a sore back and blisters on your hand and butt.
I'd just say, if you are compelled to do it, just shoot for a steady 2:30 and take a 5 minute break every hour.
