2k erg times + Henley
Question
Hi, I've been rowing for just over a year. I'm still in the novice crew but did a 2k test last week in a time of 7:53.3. I'm female, 5ft 7 and 68kg.
As I'm a novice I won't automatically be put forward for Henley selection. But I was wondering if you think it would be worth me asking if I could try out? I don't want to complete embarass myself if they say "no way"!
I've been training a lot over the winter, my technique has improved massively and I spend a lot of time rowing with the senior crews anyway.
Do you think my time is ok-ish enough to merit asking to try out of the Henley crew. Or should I just keep working hard and wait until next year?
Thank you!
Amy
Answer
Hi Amy: Your erg time is excellent. Per the Concept II online rankings, your time is better than 75% of the 15-17 year old girls on the list.
It seems like you have a lot of potential. But to row in an event like the Henley, you also need racing experience. My recommendation is that you compete in ten (10) on-water races first, then consider a serious campaign to make the Henley boat NEXT YEAR.
