6K times
Question
What is a good average 6K time for lightweight women to get noticed for college rowing?
Answer
Hi Ted: A good average time for a lightweight women in her late teens is around 25:30. To get a college coach's interest, she would have to pull 25:00 or better.
In actuality, no college coach would make a recruitment decision on an applicant solely on a 6K score. Coaches look at many factors on determining who would be an asset to their crew. The biggest one being on-water performance, such as races/regattas won and/or medaled in. As for erg scores, the one a coach is most interested in is the 2K piece. A 2K of 8:00 or better is in the 75th percentile and would be a number that a coach would use as a tiebreaker given two rowers of equal success on the water.
