Crew scholorships
Question
Hi,I am a sophmore girl in highschool, 16, and just started rowing this year with capital crew. I am about 5'10/5'10 1/2 and about 160lbs. I would like to know the necessary Erg times needed to get crew scholorships. I currently pull a 2:01 split for a 4k and a 1:50 split for a 1k. I realize these are not lengths in such erg times are generally measured, but I just wanted to give you a general idea of my times.
Answer
Hi Savannah: Your splits are really good. Based on the Concept II Database, your 1K time is in the Top-10%. I'm guessing you would do about a 7:40 in a 2K. That would put you in about the 85th percentile. Again, very good.
However, I think there is more to getting a crew scholarship than just a good erg time. Coaches really want candidates to not only have good erg scores, but also proven success in on-water racing and competition in major regattas. You'll get your chance this spring. You also have to have good grades and SATs and all that too. But your erg scores and height indicate you have the potential to be a very successful rower who could easily get a scholarship with race experience.
