2k erg score- college recruiting
Question
Hi, I was wondering what would be a a maximum time for a five 5'7 female, 155 lbs to be recruited by colleges for rowing. I have some time to lower my erg score, and was wondering where I need it to be. Thanks!
Answer
Hi Nicole: That's kind of a subjective question. Some college coaches are interested in on-water performance. Other coaches place great emphasis on erg times, even awarding scholarships to athletes who pull a great time -- but have no rowing experience. They feel they can teach someone to row, but can't teach someone to do a 7:00 2K.
I'd say that a 2K of 7:45 with solid on-water experience, good grades and SAT would get you some scholarship offers. Even a 2K of 8:00 or better, along with an outstanding resume of on-water success (i.e., medals in major regattas) would make you recruitable.
