good 5k erg?
Question
im a freshman in high school, at 5'7" and 130 lbs and i pulled a 2:05.9(PR) split on my most recent (and 2nd ever)5k. i want to know if i should row this spring instead of play baseball (my favorite sport). is that a good erg?
Answer
Hi Dylan: Projecting your split out, you clocked just under 21 minutes for our 5K. It's an average time for someone of our age and weight.
The decision to row or play baseball is a tough one for me to recommend to row. If you row, there's going to be days when it is freezing cold, you are rowing in a miserable boat and feeling awful and you will be wishing you were in centerfield at that moment. But then there will be that day, where your eight crosses the finish line in front of everyone else and it will go down as one of the greatest days of your life.
The other thing to consider is how good at baseball are you. Are you good enough to make the high school team as a starter? If you are, I'd play baseball this spring and pursue baseball until the point where you will no longer progress. Then I would recommend you give rowing your full attention.
Good Luck/AP
