height and weight
Question
Is 6 foot 1, 2, or 3 too short to get recruited for Harvard? I am 6 foot (no shoes, 6 foot 1 with) and I am supposed to be 6 foot 2 or 6 foot 3. I currently weight 159 pounds. I am a male.
Two questions, 1. Will this height prevent me from being recruited for Harvard? 2. Should I try to stay lightweight, or should I try to be heavyweight?
Thanks a lot Al
Answer
Hi Jack: I don't think Harvard, Yale or any college ever turned away a crew candidate for being 6-foot-even. For schools like Harvard, so many factors come into play, such as rowing experience, grades, and SATs. A 6-footer with outstanding erg times could make the Varsity eight over a taller rower with lesser times.
It is said that to get into Harvard, you have to either be a straight A student and captain of your crew or an A-Minus student who is the best rower period.
Good Luck/AP
