Colleges

Question
Hey, so i was wondering, i'm only a sophmore in highshool right now and im about 5'8 and 153lbs. Howver,
I know tht being tall in crew is an advantage. I'm pulling a 21:46 on my 6k, and a 6:50 on my 2k. Howver, at my height, i'm disadvantaged. Do i still hav a good chance of being recruited for college?

Answer
Hi Jeff: Though you are a bit below the average height of rowers in college, your erg times are so good (Top 10% for lightweight men your age) that you may still be recruited.  The only missing ingredients are your grades, your SAT scores, and how much on-water racing experience and success you will have by Senior Year.

I think you have a decent shot and getting a scholarship offer or two at some college lightweight programs.  And even if they don't beat your doors down with scholarship offers, you can walk-on to any college crew and have a decent shot of making freshman lightweight eight (or even lightweight Varsity 8 at some of your smaller colleges).

Good Luck/AP
