Lightweight Girls Recruit
Question
Hi i have been rowing for a little over a year now. I only spent 1 season as a novice, my first season on varsity was spring 2010 in which I made the varsity lightweight boat as 2 seat. After a successful season we placed 1st at the northwest regional championship and placed 8th at the national championship. this year I am the stroke seat of the same boat and my boat has again qualified for nationals. my boat has made the petite final and will be racing that tomorrow. We will place anywhere from 7th to 12th in the nation. My best erg score was a 2:04.6 average this year. I weigh 121 lbs. My gpa is currently a 3.86 and i am just finishing up my sophomore year. How do I compare to other women lwts my age and what are my chances of getting recruited?
Answer
Abby,
It sounds like you have had a very successful lightweight career. The average lightweight girls 2k is 8:40, so there you are OK but nothing exceptional., I would try and gain about 5 or 6 pounds, because then you would have a good chance to break 8 ( considering your young age) and even barely breaking 8 would put you in the 90th percentile, something that colleges would be happy to see. I think your GPA is good, but SAT scores play a large part, as well as technique, and the prestige of the college. So, I don't feel comfortable saying However if you break 8 and keep up your GPA I think you would definitely catch some college's attention.
Good luck,
Annie Barker
