Why do climbers carry their own oxygen tanks at high altitudes?

This is not accurate. Climbers do not typically carry their own oxygen tanks at high altitudes. Supplemental oxygen is only occasionally used by some climbers attempting mountaineering above the "Death Zone" (approximately 26,000 ft). Most climbers rely on acclimatization to get their bodies used to the thin air at high elevations.
