technique on the wall
Question
I am attending the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, Canada) and the building my program is in has an indoor climbing wall. I just recently got back into climbing but don't know much about technique. Was hoping you could offer some info on technique? Thanks a lot.

Ok well when i teach kids how to start off climbing, as simple as it sounds i usually tell them to treate it like you are climbing the stairs. You move your feet up first and then use your arms only for balance. If you find your self reaching with your arms, you are more likely to become tired easily due to a build of lactic acid. This increase of lactate causes a major problem in everyones performance on the wall, but by using your legs to gain height and using your arms for balance you will deffinatly improve your balance, therefore improving your confidence, technique and overall your climbing.
Additionally, more complex climbing like over hangs, i would suggest that you speed your climbing at the begining to save energy untill you get to the over hang itself. I would then advice for you to keep your hips in, on the overhang as well as on the more vertical surfaces.
