Question -
dear friend:
the question is:
should I tell firemen not to use these ropes from spain (I do not know if they are approved by IUAA or not because they came without manual)even the fact that they can be used two diferent ropes togoether at the same time in case one of them fail?
A friend of mine told me that it is almost imposible to get a rope broken with the weight of one man
thank you for your opinion
Answer
Dear Polisar---if the ropes appear to be new and are kernamantle----a multi-strand core with a woven sheath..they are probably OK. There is an active climbing community in Caracas---you can find them on rockclimbing.com---one of them should be willing to come down and inspect the ropes for you.
I suspect if you go to Google.com you will find Venezuelan climbers or climbing clubs---especially at a University.
John Long is a famous US climber who is married to a Venezuelan---last I heard he lives there for part of the year---he will know the locals--and he use rockclimbing.com--he is known as "largo."
Again--one person cannot break a rope with out it going over a sharp edge----but there are many other types of rope-use accidents.
