Gibraltar Climb 1927 winner medal

Question
QUESTION: Hi,

A friend of mine recently discovered a gold medal following a relative抯 house clearance, it reads: 慦inner Gibraltar Climb For Ordinary 1927?with 憁ade in the USA?stamped at the bottom, the other face shows a climber ascending a summit.

Would you have any idea where / how I could find out the name of this 憌inner?or any more information on this long since competition. I presume the medal refers to the climb in the USA and not the Europe Gibraltar?

This information would be of great sentimental value to my friend.

scan of the item in question available upon request.

Many Thanks in advance for your help

ANSWER: Dear Leslie,

I checked my books, the internet and several climbing sources.  Unfortunately, I didn't come up with anything helpful.  1927 is very early for any sort of climbing competition or event in this country.  I have a feeling the medal  might be for some other sport or activity.  Have you got any other history about the possible owner of the medal?  Interests?  Hobbies?  If you'll send me a jpg. of the medal, I'll run it by the American Alpine Club archivists and a few other climbing contacts I have.  I don't know how you wish to handle it, but my email is

Sorry I wasn't more helpful!

QUESTION: Hi Robert,

Many thanks for your prompt reply,

Please find attached both the front and back of the medal.

I would imagine this is a climbing medal as it shows a person reaching a summit with the other side showing the writing.

My friend knows very little of the history of this item as it was discovered whilst clearing the house of a recently deceased close relative, hence the deep sentimental value attached to the medal.

My friend has no knowledge of the Internet so i have been given this research task, perhaps i am barking up the wrong tree, would this relate to the 'rock of Gibraltar' in Europe?

Both my friend and i live in Northern Ireland and have done all our lives. (if this is relative?)

Should you have the patience to research this further then again, many thanks, perhaps the pics might help if you were to forward to other parties.

It might actually turn out to be an interesting story some day!

Very grateful,

Les Kelly

Answer
Dear Les,

Can you send the reverse of the medal again.  I didn't retrieve the side which pictures the climber reaching the summit.
