leg aches and pains
Question
Hi John.
I've recently decided to get fit and chose to do this by jogging as its a lot cheaper than going to the gym and i live by the sea so its very pleasant to jog along the seafront.
I am however a total beginner and although i've bought a great pair of asics shoes and done some research before my first run, my legs have ached and been in pain for at least 3 days afterwards.
My job requires me to be on my feet all day so i cant have achey legs on a regular basis. Can you please advise me on how to run to get fit and enjoy it without the aches and pains or reduce the suffering? If it helps the aches and pains are in my calf muscles and thigh muscles but do tend to be worse in my thigh muscles.
Answer
Hi Jim
I remember those days vividly, even my eye balls hurt,ha ha.Just kidding.I don't no what your height weight ratio, but if you need to lose weight this will work good. What i reccomend jim is alternate days of walking and joging till you find the right balance of 1 or 2 days joging to 1 walking etc,if you get the picture. The body adapts over time, but will do it on its own schedule. The key is to listen to it talk to you and then ajust your program accordingly. You also must do a regular streching program for calfs.thighs, low back, hamstrings back of leg.A couple of other things you can do is take 500mg of vitimin C with your 3 meals a day. This is like gold for runners. Also add a couple of hot epson salt baths a week ,more if you want. These are fantastic for recovery, and the tissues.Getting back in shape is a job,and you have to approach it that way or pay the price.Work back gradually jim and be consistent and have patient. You can get epson salts in your local pharmacy.Very cheap.Enjoy.You will also sleep great that night of your bath.
To your continued success
John
