How can I train to be able to jog around 3 miles?
Question
I have exercise induced asthma and would love to be able to jog short distances outdoors. I do take my inhaler around 15 minutes prior to starting the job but how can I train myself and my breathing to be able to do the 3 miles? I have recently started doing intervals, I will jog a short distance, walk to slow down my breathing, jog another short distance, etc. In the end I probably jog about 1.5 miles and walk about the same. I would love to be able to jog the total 3 miles. My husband does it just about everyday and I would love to be able to join him. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Answer
Hi Kristy
I'm very familiar with it and have known people who get along fine, but i personally can't specifictly recomend anything for you.I do no one thing that the foods we eat have a great deal to do with exercise in general, and certain foods have a more devastaing effect on the breathing patterns.I would recomend learning all you can,ala google,And just don't give up till you find answer. Most important, beware of your pocket book.Everybody will tell you they have the answer. Here is one really good source which will take some time, but i'm sure will get some targeted feedback from runners who are in your situation.Make a list of running clubs around the usa and email them. running Message boards...runners world message board.www.letsrun.com message board, running times magazine. My running club back in new jersey.I'm the founder.www.essexrunning.com.I really think if you start contacting clubs and message boards you can find someone who has been experiencing your situation.New york road runners club is the largest club in the world with many international members, anothe is www.usatf.org.This is the route i would take plus read everything experiment, test, experiment, test.Look into nutrition and its effect on asthma.you will find answers if you look hard enought.I can't tell you how much research and studying i've done over the last 28 years, and boy has it payed off. There is not much i can't answer,i wish i could of helped you better. It is hard work, but worth the dudiligence for the outcome.Use google and just keep compiling list.If you have anything else or questions just get in touch.Send me your email and if i run accross anythig i'll get in touch if you want.
The very best to ya
