5k training... how?
Question
no, i dont have a coach to help me train. i do run twice a day, averaging 3 to 6 miles per day. its just that i'm afraid i dont know how to train besides just running. i mean, do i run fast every time? or should i run longer distances and slow down? should i run 3 miles to train for a 5k, or should i train double and run six miles? i need to know how to vary my runing. i dont really have a method. i just run.

-----Question-----
i am 14, and have been running for three years now. most of that time has been heavy training, almost every day. i have been training for long distance such as the mile and the 5k. but i found out at cross country season recently that i havent gotten that much better. when i started training years back i was slow as heck, so i havent any natural running skill. my best mile time is 6:16, and my best 5k time is 21:20. how do i train for the 5k? i mean every day i am willing to train so i can master this race.

Hi Jared
Your times are really not that slow.I have no idea what kind of training program your on so i can't really comment.Don't you have a coach advising you?Your going to have to tell me more about you, bio.

Answer
Hi Jared
First thing i would do is shop around for a qualified coach to work with you.As far as getting started, you need to give your self a 3 to 5 months time frame before you start racing.First 2 1/2 months is building a foundation. The second phase is when you start getting into some hills and speed sessions.Your foundation phase is just about puting a good deal of mileage at a comfortable pace with a couple of fartleks a week where you keep allternating the pace like 2 to 4 minutes hard pace with 1 to 2 minutes easy running. This gives you a general idea how it will progress.I really think you should have a coach to guide you with a very specific program.I hope this helps jared to give you a little focus.Any other questions get in touch.
