Mile Time
Question
I am a thirteen year old boy with mild to moderate asthma. My mile time is around 7:30. I don't think it's bad, but every time I finish i'm totally wiped out, and it takes about 5 minutes to be breathing normally again. What can I do be able to recover faster and/or increase my time?
Answer
David,
I am not an expert in dealing with asthma issues, so I'm afraid I can't help you out here. I suggest having your parents talk about this with your doctor who helps you take care of your asthma. Perhaps there is a different dosage of the medication you take that will help your lungs out better.
Another thing is too, that at the beginning of the season, you may feel more 'wiped out' after hard efforts, such as a mile time trial. Through the course of the season, you will progressively find yourself getting in better race shape, allowing you to recover faster as well.
So, in general, talk to your doctor first, and see what can happen on that end.
I hope you find out the information you need,
