Cramp on treadmill

Question
Afer years of being overweight I have recently invested in a treadmill - electric one, I have lost nearly 2 stone and have been running on it every day for 30 minutes for the last few weeks (when I say running I actually mean walking fast and jogging) I warm up the muscles in my legs by doing some stretches for about 10 minutes then for the first 10 minutes I walk at a very slow pace and increase the speed over time, I am seriously suffering with really bad calf muscle cramp and it is making it impossible to do the treadmill, the muscle only gets cramp when I start going faster but it is getting to the stage where I cant do it anymore ? I am drinking lots of water before, after and during and have also been drinking some tonic water for quinine. Please let me know if you have any advise

thanks
emma

Answer
Hi Emma
Your calf muscles will adapt in time. What i would recommend is  stop from time to time when your working out and stretch out your calfs untill the problem discipates. Also start taking 500mg of vit c with your three meals a day. Also after your workout you want to ICE them for about 10 minutes. Also don't use the incline if you are untill you get it under control.Let me know how that works for you Emma.Any other questions just get in touch.

All the best

John
