calcaneous fracture

Question
Hi Ryan!
I am in the 12th week of my recovery from a calcaneous fracture due to a fall from a height.  No surgery, more like a stress fracture situation.  I am wondering if you had ever heard of anyone resuming running after such a fracture and any advice on how to increase my mileage?  I am currently running 3 days a week, 1 min on/off or 5 min very slow, 1 min walk, all on grass and walking on treadmill or grass on off days.  Also, I have read that pain is common in these fractures for us to 2 years - although being a lifelong runner, that won't really stop me - you know how we can be!  When should I pay attention to the pain & when should I push through?

Answer
Jackie,

Not sure about these. Follow your doctor's advice. I had a broken ankle once and ran in the grass a little a day with the cast on even....but then again I am a little crazy. I don't remember being out 3 months, so I realy couldn't tell you. The doctor should guide you properly.

Ryan
