Numbness in shin

Question
Hi...I have recently implemented running on a treadmill into my weekly workout routine.  I am 4'11'' and in good shape.  I recently discovered a numbness in my left shin.  I was wondering if this could be in relation to adding running to my workouts.  I only run an average of three miles per run.  Like I mentioned...this is very new for me, so my body is not used to this type of cardio. I would appreciate any insight regarding this matter...if there is any :).

Thank you,
Cristi

Answer
If you went from zero miles & no running, to 3 miles per run, there could be some adjustments being made.  I don't know what's causing the numbness, as I cannot solve injury problems through this type of Q&A format.  I would back off the running to perhaps 1-1.5 miles instead, and substitute the rest of it with a cycling or elliptical workout time.
Then, you could gradually build back up on your running time to allow your body to adjust better to the demands of running.
