1.5 mile run

Question
I;m turning 50 this year and I will be running 1.5 mi test in December. I have to run it in 14 min and 33 sec. Any suggestions for training?

Answer
Well, I can't tell you what to do, if I don't know what you are already doing, or have been doing.  To make any recommendations for a training program for you without knowing these things is rather directionless from my standpoint.  You basically have a year to prepare for this, so the least I can recommend doing is being on a schedule of 5-6 days a week of physical activity, both strength training & running workouts.  You could do 3 days a week of running, and 3 days of strength training.  Your only objective is a 1.5 mile run in less than a 10 minute mile pace, which is highly attainable I'd say for most 50 year olds who are active.
