chondro malacia
Question
dear John,
I read some earlier posts about chondro malacia at:
http://en.allexperts.com/q/Jogging-Running-1648/RIGHT-KNEE-HURTS.htm
I was training for a marathon, and was up to around 45 mpw, steady build-up from zero, averaging 5-7 increase per week. while on holiday in florida, i didnt know about how running on sand can affect you and my first day there, i did a 2.5 hour run on the beach. i felt fine (albeit a little sore), and took the next day off. the day after that, i tried running and both my knees were killing me. i ran around 4miles before calling it quits. took the next day off, then the day after that, same problem, but only with the right knee, and then stopped after 4 miles. over the next 10 days, i trained in the water and bike, and when i came back to running, after around 3 miles of fine feelings, the right knee pain kicked in again. have i got chondro malacia? and is the workout in the above post the only way to solve it?
how can i know for sure, and should i get some sort of scan? ever since that last run, i stopped running completely. i ride my bike everywhere, and my knee never gives me problems then. and then about 6 weeks after that last incident, i was running around the whole morning sorting out some stuff before leaving town, and the pain kicked back in. now its fine, but i cant leave it in a uncomfortable position for too long before it starts feeling weird.
i do have some minor running ambitions, and do like running on the road as well as on the track with spikes. the guy at the running store told me it may have come about because i need new shoes, but i think i only logged 250 in these before the knee pain came.
i apologize for the barrage of info and questions.
please advise, and thank you so much for the help.
Answer
Hi Hish
It Is not your shoes. With Chondromalacia you will feel it underneath and around the kneecap and walking up stairs. There is a test i do which is very easy to perform but i can't explain it over the internet. If you want to call me my number is 505 271 5909 and then i can go into detail and get to the bottom of it.I would not bother with a scan.It is possible you might of strained some tendons and ligaments. The post up above prescription is magic.I know because i was my first client years ago.If you have other questions just get in touch Hish
All the best
